Vermont Insight Meditation Center offers several opportunities for meditation practice during the month. All are welcome, new and experienced students alike. Instructions are given when requested by those attending. Teachers or Practice Leaders are available for questions following the session. Sunday Sitting Group The Sunday sitting group meets from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on the first and third Sundays of each month. ** As of April 2010, we will also be meeting on the second Sunday of the month ** Neighbors' Hall at Solar Hill, 229 Western Avenue, Brattleboro Taught by: Claire Stanley, Cheryl Wilfong, Kate Wylie, and guest teachers. Summer Tuesday Evening Sitting and Discussion The popular summer Tuesday evening sitting and discussion sessions will commence on June 29 and continue through July and August meeting from 6:30 to 8pm. Over the summer, the Tuesday evening sits are a great way to stabilize your meditation practice. Those who take VIMC courses are now on "summer vacation" until classes begin again in September. Our summer schedules often become quite busy, but on the Tuesdays when you are in the area, please consider attending these sits as a way to refresh your practice and join a Dharma discussion. The practice leader each week will bring in a article for the group to read together and discuss. Neighbors' Hall at Solar Hill, 229 Western Avenue, Brattleboro Led by: Cheryl Wilfong, Mary Matthias, Drew Kovach, and others. Morning Sitting Groups The Weekly Sitting Groups are available for anyone wishing to practice in Sangha (community) with optional guidance. The Dharma Friends Group offers guidance for members to self-organize to discuss the teachings and the application of the Dharma to daily life in a friendly and supportive environment. As a peer-led group, the participants determine what to read and the structure of the weekly meetings. Discussions center on bringing the Dharma into practice in daily life. Cheryl Wilfong initially facilitated this self-organizing group. Wednesday Evenings 6:30 – 8:00pm Cherry Room, First Floor, Solar Hill Mansion, 229 Western Avenue, Brattleboro To register and/or to request further information, call 254-7077 or email information@vermontinsight An offering may be made to Vermont Insight to cover the rental of the Cherry Room. Dana Within the Theravadin Buddhist tradition, generosity or Dana is practiced by making an offering to the teachers. For 2600 years, since the time of the Buddha, the teachings have been considered priceless and have been offered freely. The teachers offer the Dana or generosity of their teaching and they are supported through the Dana of the students and the community. Weekly or bi-monthly sitting groups are offered entirely on a Dana basis. |
